At the intersection of the Great Basin and Sierra Nevada, UNR and Reno/Tahoe region is a great place to work, live, and study ecology.
Graduate Students
Prospective students are encouraged to reach out to Bob about opportunities. Please include a short letter about your research interests, goals, and CV.
I am not accepting students for Fall 2024.
Postdoc
We are looking for postdoc! Come work with Joanna Blaszczak and I to develop models to explain and predict harmful algal bloom in rivers. Details here.
A number of independent fellowships exist for postdocs (e.g. USDA, Smith ). I'd be exited to work with prospective postdocs on developing proposals for these programs.
Lab Expectations
Members of the lab can expect from me:
-Dedicated times for regular meetings to discuss their research projects and goals. These can be as often as weekly, or less often depending on need.
- Timely feedback on manuscripts and proposal (within 1-2 weeks).
- Opportunities for professional development, including funding to attend conferences.
- Thoughtful consideration of suggestions to improve my mentoring or the lab environment.
My Expectations for lab members:
-I expect lab members to help promote an inclusive and respectful work environment in the lab and the UNR/research community.
-I expect students/postdocs to take an active roll in developing their research questions.
-I do not expect graduate students to enter with a deep knowledge of mathematical or statistical modeling, but I do expect that students are excited and motivated to learn these skills and incorporate them into their research. While we do pride ourselves on being experienced field ecologists, the majority of our time is spent brainstorming models and programming.
-I encourage lab members to develop collaborations beyond me. I see developing collaborative experiences and a network beyond me as key for career development.
- I expect lab members to publish and present their research (with my help and feedback).
